Scientists report there are at least a hundred dead zones on the planet. Areas where the water has no oxygen, killing the creatures living in it. The answer is pollution, and too much waste that robs the water of O2 in its decomposition.
The effect on the Great South Bay would be disastrous. It might happen, but so far it has not. We have time to make changes, but no time to ignore the dangerous path we are on.
Since there are no legal limits to the size of homes we build here, no limits that prevents the inevitable greasing of palms to look the other way and approve permits which are harmful to the islands ecology. we need to restrain ourselves. We could be poisoning ourselves.
The issue is, can we? Or are we gluttonously eating up the bay and island we all love?
